NEW YORK – ?Filipino and Filipino-American runners will be joining the 40th York City Marathon on Nov.1, according to the Philippine Consulate General New York.
The consulate said that while many Filipino and Filipino-American runners from New York City and from across the US have already converged on the city to continue training in the remaining days before the marathon, they will be joined by a 19-member team composed of Reena Aguilar, Ma. Agustin Azurin, Blesilda Marica Calica, Nelson Chan, Michele Chan Siy-Yap, Edwin Ching, Johnson Robert Go, Lance Gokongwei, Melissa? Limcaoco, Marta Ines Prieto? Lovina, Joseph Madrid, Rishi Mirani, Raymond John Moreno, Natalie Que Pe Ng, Manolo? Perez, Juan Vicente Rufino, Simon Sandoval, Harry Jr.? Tan, and Luz Marie Erlinda Tiangco.
Filipino community organizations are also participating in this quintessential New York event.?
The Philippine-New York Jaycees, members and volunteers, will be manning Aid Station #16 (Mile 17).? Support along the 42.195 kilometer/ 26.219 mile course is sure to be appreciated by the runners.?
The consulate is calling on the community to support the Filipino and Filipino-American runners.Those who wish to wave the Philippine flag along the route may contact Cultural Officer Marievic Dimaculangan at 212-764-1330 ext 310 and request flaglets for the event.
“We are calling on the community to wave the Philippine flag with pride as our compatriots complete this arduous test of physical endurance,” the consulate said.?
