Agustin Azurin, Blesilda Marica Calica, Nelson Chan, Michele Chan Siy-Yap, Edwin Ching, Johnson Robert Go, Lance Gokongwei, Melissa? Limcaoco, Marta Ines Prieto? Lovina, Joseph Madrid, Rishi Mirani, Raymond John Moreno, Natalie Que Pe Ng, Manolo? Perez, Juan Vicente Rufino, Simon Sandoval, Harry Jr.? Tan, and Luz Marie Erlinda Tiangco.

Filipino community organizations are also participating in this quintessential New York event.?

The Philippine-New York Jaycees, members and volunteers, will be manning Aid Station #16 (Mile 17).? Support along the 42.195 kilometer/ 26.219 mile course is sure to be appreciated by the runners.?

NEW YORK -- An exhibition of new, large-scale work of internationally renowned artist Lenore RS Lim is now on view at the Philippine Center here, the Philippine Consulate General said.

Lim, a Filipino printmaker who resides in New York and Manila, presents recently?executed giclee works based on her nature & nostalgia series. The suite of prints, all produced?between 2008 and 2009, will be part of a traveling exhibit in Europe &?Asia in 2010 & 2011, according to the Consulate.

The artist has a long history of experimenting with ways to expand her?horizons as an artist, particularly with technology not necessarily?intended for use by artists. ?This inclination has led her to new?formats. All of the prints were created in?Plaine & Chamberlaine Studio in White Plains NY in collaboration with?Paul Plaine & Wally Rodriguez. ?

NEW YORK - The Philippines' "economic growth" story took centerstage in the recently concluded Philippine Investors Roadshow in Boston and New York City, according to the Philippine Consulate General in New York.

Representatives of various financial and investment companies, fund managers, and rating agencies in the US reportedly met with Philippine finance officals, led by Finance Secretary Margarito Teves for a briefing on? recent developments in the Philippine monetary, banking, financial and fiscal sectors.

Jose? Ibazeta, president of the? Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM),? also discussed the progress in the privatization of the power sector in the Philippines.

The PCGNY said in a release that US that the Philippine team also discussed short- and medium-term outlooks for the Philippine economy and gave assurances that the Philippines continues to be an attractive investment destination.

'Imelda,' the musical, opens in New York

NEW YORK -- “Imelda,” a new musical of former First Lady Imelda Marcos ,?is showing at the Julia Miles Theater in New York until Oct. 18.

Staged by PanAsian Repertory Theatre, the musical?spans the years after Philippine Independence in the 1940s to the Marcoses’ fall from grace in the 1980s.

Pan Asian Repertory said in its website the musical is a “story of a powerful and controversial figure… an ambitious woman who wants to make her country an equal player on the world stage.”

Directed by Tim Dang, the musical opened last Sept. 22 and will run until Oct. 18. Among its many highlights are the songs “A Beautiful Place,” sung by Imelda Marcos, “IF I Had Raised a Butterfly,,” sung by former strongman Ferdinand Marcos and Ninoy Aquino, and “Myself, My Heart,” sung by Cory Aquino after her husband’s assassination.

The New York Times has published a review of the show?with good words for the show’s lead star.

“The New York premiere has taken it up a notch with the f-foot-6 “Miss Saigon” and “Aida” vet Jaycee Macapugay as Imelda. And Chou has made sure she is properly swathed in Imeldific ( a self-coined adjective that Meldy used to mean “ostentatious extravagance”) wear,” it said.

?And what is an Imelda musical without the famed shoes?

“Of course, there are shoes,” the New York Times review said. “And a song about them., “3,0000 Pairs of Shoes” – though Imelda insists there were only 1,060 (“Why the thrills for my espadrilles?What boring chat, I will tell my story, all without this Imelda Marcos shoe mystique. Love and youth, tragedy and truth, laughs, romance and all that. Talk of shoes, what a pain. I’m here to entertain!).

WASHINGTON – Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy Gaa is urging the Filipino community to participate in the decennial national census of the United States population. ?

“I encourage all Filipinos to register and participate in this year’s census as the growing Filipino community has proven to be a vibrant element of the United States, evidenced by the numerous achievements and positive contributions to their respective communities by our millions of kababayans here in the US. An accurate count of the total number of Filipinos would provide accurate data of the respective concentrations of Filipinos in the different parts of the United States. It is an opportunity for us to realize the full potential of our strength as we strive to attain empowerment and relevance as a community in local and national politics,”? Gaa said.?

The census is a count of all persons living in the United States—citizens and non-citizens alike -- ? conducted every 10 years.?The census data serves as a basis for determining the number of seats for each state in the US House of Representatives.? It also affects the allocation of federal funding, which is partly based on the information gathered from the count.?

In 2000, there was an estimated 2.3 million Filipinos living in the United States. ?

The 2010 census questionnaire contains 10 questions about key demographic information on each US household.? Data gathered from the respondents are kept confidential by the Census Bureau and will not be divulged to other government agencies and law enforcement entities, as stipulated by law.?

NEW YORK -- An exhibit featuring the works of Filipino master comics artist Francisco V. Coching will be showcased at the Philippine Center in New York from Oct. 26 to Nov. 26.

Coching, a popular Filipino novelist and comics illustrator,?wrote and illustrated 55 novels, 51 of which were adapted into movies. ?He was a popular "komiks" personality from 1930 to 1970 and popularized ?many characters that Filipinos are familiar with such as ?Hagibis, Barbaro, El Indio, Satur, Lapu Lapu,?Pedro Penduko, Movie Fan, Maldita, Talipandas, Condenado, and Dimasalang, among others.

Coching had received from Malacanang the Presidential Merit Award and the?Cultural Center of the Philippines Gawad ?CCP Para Sa Sining for Visual Arts. He continues to connect today, as he has connected and communicated with millions of Filipinos as far back as 1934, with his illustrated comics and novels. ??
